NAME: Djevara ALBUM: The Rising Tide YEAR: 2010 (March 8th) LABEL: Genin RATING: 3/5 FIVE WORD REVIEW: UK underground bow down now! LOCATION: London, UK LINE UP: Bass (vocals/guitar) / Geoff (bass) / Malc (drums) WHAT’S THE STORY?: Djevara, roughly translating as “a time or place denoting the beginning of justice and the end of intolerance” in an ancient language, have been rocking the UK underground since 2000. ‘The Rising Tide’ is their third release and sees the band blur boundaries further with their unique hardcore punk and alternative rock brand. SOUNDS LIKE: Angry. Really pissed off and cynical. But you know what? Djevara are proof that hardcore is still aggressive and political, not just about haircuts. This is six tracks of uncomplicated and uncompromising hardcore that is not only good for the ears (if you can excuse the rugged production), but good for the brain too. Not one for scene posers. YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Refused, At The Drive-In and Fugazi.
